Veteran Author Lonesome B. Augustine Comes Home to Local Television: Featured on WAVY-TV’s The Hampton Roads Show

FREDERICKSBURG, VA, UNITED STATES, August 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Virginia-based veteran novelist Lonesome B. Augustine made a featured in-studio appearance on The Hampton Roads Show on WAVY-TV, the NBC affiliate serving Hampton Roads, on Monday, August 10. The interview, taped as-live at the WAVY studios in Portsmouth, will introduce the Hampton Roads community to Augustine’s two novels, his decades of business and public-sector experience, and the mentorship ministry he has built over the past ten years.

The segment aired at 11:00 AM on WAVY (NBC) and again at 1:00 PM on The CW on August 10. It was also made available on the WAVY+ streaming app and posted to WAVY.com under The Hampton Roads Show section.

The appearance marked Augustine’s first television segment in his home state and one of the most strategically meaningful stops of a national visibility campaign that began with a taped interview on FOX 5 San Diego’s The LOCAList SD in June. Hampton Roads is one of the largest and most veteran-dense television markets in the United States, home to Norfolk Naval Station, Naval Air Station Oceana, Langley Air Force Base, and the wider Hampton Roads military community. For a Virginia-based veteran author whose work is rooted in service, discipline, and Black storytelling, the WAVY appearance places his voice in front of an audience uniquely positioned to hear it.

“This one matters to me. I am a Virginia author, and Hampton Roads has always been home ground for the kind of people I write for and about. Walking into that studio felt less like a promotional stop and more like a homecoming.”

Lonesome B. Augustine
Augustine’s path to publishing is unusual. He built a 35-year career spanning business and public service, including time in both federal and state government, before turning to fiction in his sixties. That career informs every page of his debut novel, ICE: A Story of Love, Crime and Politics, a cinematic crime thriller built around a Black private investigator pulled into a dangerous collision of crime and power. His second novel, Dark Prairie: Forged by Blood, Bound by Choice, is a Black historical Western that reclaims the frontier heroes American history left out, including Nat Love, Mary Fields, and John Ware. Dark Prairie arrives squarely in the cultural moment created by Peacock’s High Horse: The Black Cowboy, The Harder They Fall, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves, a moment Augustine has been preparing for his entire writing life.

Augustine is also the founder of Football Faith, a Virginia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry that has spent the past decade mentoring young men through faith, discipline, and the lessons of the game. For Augustine, the ministry and the novels are two expressions of a single mission.

“The novels put the question on the page. Football Faith answers it in real boys’ lives. A man who only writes about building men is a novelist. A man who actually builds them is a witness. When I walked into WAVY, I walked in as both.”
