RecoMyst releases ‘If Dottie Sang’ — a 19-track theatrical jazz reimagining of Parker’s verse, arriving on the centenary of her bestselling 1926 poetry debut, ‘Enough Rope’
OTTAWA, ON / MusicWire / July 30, 2026 — In 1926, Dorothy Parker published Enough Rope and became the most quotable woman in America. Exactly one hundred years later, Canadian producer, composer, and pianist RecoMyst has done what Parker’s poems always threatened to do on their own: turned them into songs.
If Dottie Sang, out now, is a 19-track concept album imagining an alternative early 20th-century songbook—one where Parker’s razor-sharp verse leaves the literary page for the cabaret bandstand. The premise is simple: the poems already possessed the timing of a torch singer and the biting exit lines of a vaudeville act. Somebody just had to write the music.
That somebody is RecoMyst, who composed all the music on the album, seamlessly adapting Parker’s public domain poems—at times weaving lines from multiple pieces together with original lyrics. The album is the culmination of years of workshopping with various vocalists and arrangers. The sonic journey mirrors Parker’s legendary evenings: beginning in an intimate cabaret and ending somewhere much louder. Traditional jazz, theater, and cabaret arrangements sit alongside bold electro-swing and dance reworkings, including club versions of “If You Knew What I’m Like” and “When in Rome” that carry a 1926 wit straight onto a 2026 dance floor.
Sixteen of the album’s tracks were released as singles over the past year, building a dedicated audience one barbed couplet at a time. Three songs debut exclusively on the full album: “Shiny Gun,” “Some Mediocre Guy,” and “Paen.”
“Parker wrote about love the way most people write complaint letters — precisely, and with no expectation of a reply,” says RecoMyst. “These poems have been waiting a century for their melodies. I didn’t want them to wait any longer.”

All music was written by RecoMyst, utilizing lyrics drawn and adapted from Parker’s public domain poems. The album officially marks the 100th anniversary of Enough Rope, Parker’s 1926 debut collection and one of the bestselling poetry books of its era.
