Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas Awards More Than $3.5M in Grants to Address Heirs’ Property Issues

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) has awarded more than $3.5 million in Pathway Fund grants to assist 30 organizations with preventing or remediating heirs’ property challenges, such as resolving property title disputes or establishing a will.

“Pathway is about keeping family assets secure and communities strong,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “These grants enable organizations to clear titles and prevent future issues so more families can build stability and long-term wealth.”

The grants, awarded through 11 participating FHLB Dallas members, will be used to clear an estimated 2,684 titles and prevent heirs’ property issues by executing wills or deeds for nearly 5,000 individuals. The funding is also expected to assist nearly 26,000 people with training and education.

Pathway Fund grants are awarded through FHLB Dallas member institutions to support homeowners within FHLB Dallas’ five-state District. No grants were awarded in New Mexico this year. The following funds were awarded:

Arkansas: $175,000

Louisiana: $1,625,000

Mississippi: $732,500

Texas: $1,025,000

Organizations were eligible to receive up to $150,000 for remediation efforts and up to $25,000 for education and will preparation. Since the program began, FHLB Dallas has distributed more than $10.8 million through the Pathway Fund.

Heirs’ property refers to land or a home passed down without a will or clear legal documentation of ownership. Without a clear title, families may face challenges transferring, financing or preserving property for future generations.
